The Goldsborough Story

Goldsborough Financial Services was established in 1992 by Glenn Todman, Peter Johnston and John Oliver.

Glenn and Peter both had backgrounds as high school teachers and had worked together as financial planners with the Bennett Johnston Group.  John operated his own financial planning business.

The company has grown since then from three financial planners and two support staff to now have eighteen people, including eight financial planners.  Along the road there have been a number of significant changes to adapt to, milestones achieved and challenges that we have faced and learnt from.

In 1994 we successfully obtained our own Dealer’s License from the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC), which made us one of only a few firms in Adelaide who were privately owned and had their own license.  In 2004 we transitioned to ASICs new licensing regime and became an Australian Financial Services License (AFSL) holder.

In 2005 Peter Johnston decided to take on other challenges so we sourced a new equity partner in DKN Financial Services which allowed Peter to exit the business.  Glenn and John remained as major shareholders but it also provided the opportunity for our CEO Susie Vincent and financial planners Brenton Miegel and Lachlan Harvey to become shareholders.

Since then Sam Martin and Will Chapman have become shareholders and Craig Kirkwood, Michelle Sanchez-McCallum and Matt Kelly have joined us as financial planners.

In recent years, as shareholders, we have gradually been buying back shares from DKN and in 2016 we successfully “bought back the farm” to become 100% privately owned again.

In 2016 we faced our greatest challenge when founding partner Glenn passed away.  This was an upheaval for clients and staff alike and both operationally and emotionally challenging.  Fortunately we had six other financial planners who were able to take on Glenn’s clients with minimal disruption as they were all familiar with how he worked and used to working with the same support systems and staff.  Susie, Brenton and Lachlan already had the opportunity to gain management experience as part of our succession planning program and were able to join John as Directors of the firm.

One thing that hasn’t changed is our location.  Our offices have been at 120 Greenhill Road Unley since the beginning but we have clients spread across the state.  There are also a number of our clients who have moved interstate or overseas but have chosen to maintain their relationship with their Goldsborough adviser.  We have continued to invest in technology and with optic fibre internet to our offices, video conferencing capabilities and secure data storage we are equally able to meet with clients in our offices or by phone or video call.

We are very proud of where we are today and intend to keep building our business and servicing our clients to the best of our ability.

We have a team of support staff in the office which includes associate advisers, paraplanners, client service managers and administration assistants.  Many of these staff have been with us for over 10 years and have developed their skills and been promoted within the business through internal mentoring and the training we encourage and provide.

Goldsborough have been finalists twice in the Telstra Business Awards and a finalist in the National IFA Awards for Best Client Servicing Firm.  In 2017 we participated in an externally conducted client satisfaction survey which benchmarked us against financial planning firms across Australia and were delighted to achieve top quartile ratings in each of the nine Key Performance Indicators they assessed.
